"I started the arguement..." Rosetta protested weakly. She suddenly wouldn't meet Sweeney's eyes. "I-I made that woman...She d-doesn't remember anything..." she whispered.

Sweeney stopped.What woman? What do you mean?

"The man that you killed...His wive saw you." Rosetta whispered. "I tried to calm her down. I was hoping she hadn't seen you. I-I didn't want to kill her..." she broke off in sobs. She finally got control over her crying and wiped her eyes with shakey hands. "She looked into my eyes and the next thing I knew she was confused. She had no idea what had just happened. I convinced her that she had seen a short man from out of town kill her husband. She went to the police after that and I went home." she told him. Her words running together as she tried to tell Sweeney what had happened before she started crying again.

He closed his eyes.I murdered another man? I killed again?The rage had fuzzed out his memory and he wasfinding it hard to think.

Rosetta nodded, her shoulders shaking with her sobs. "I'm sorry I made you mad..." she whispered as she turned over to bury her face in the pillow, muffling her crying.

Sweeneys pale fingers found hers.

Rosetta's fingers curled and around Sweeney's. She kept her face hurried in the pillow. "I-I'm sorry." came her muffled voice.

He squeezed her fingers.Stop saying that.

Rosetta turned her head slightly to look up at him from one teary, emrald eye. "But I am..." she whispered, her bottom lip trembling.

He dipped his head to kiss her softly.

Rosetta kissed him back willingly, comforted by it.

Sweeny broke off after a few minutes. You need to sleep, love.

Rosetta yawned. Her exhaustion finally taking it's toll on her as Sweeney spoke. Her eyes drooped heavily as she rested her head against the pillow. "I'm still sorry..." she whispered as she drifted off to sleep.

He smoothed her hair back and then the smooth, calm face disappeared and his face grew stressed and haggard. He got up silently and went over to the window to stand and stare out, and didn't move till morning.

Rosetta woke up slowly the next morning, still feeling exhausted. She muffled a moan into the pillow before she pushed herself into a sitting position, pushing the bed covers back. She saw Sweeney standing by the window and rubbed her eyes sleepily. "Sweeney?" she asked, wondering if he was okay. She moved to get off the bed and had to lean against the bed when her legs threatened to collapse.

Sweeney turned to her slowly. His face was somehow thinned, his cheekbones prominent, dark black shadows under his empty eyes. One of his hands were shaking.

Rosetta's tired green eyes instantly filled with worry the moment Sweeney turned around. She pushed herself away from the bed and stumbled towards him. "Ar you alright?" she asked frantically. She always worried over him and Johanna.

He didn't say anything. Do anything. His eyes filled with self-hatred.

Rosetta noticed the odd look in his eyes and lifted her hand to touch his cheek gently, her hand trembled. Her thoughts were becoming panicked. Is he mad at me? Did I do something wrong? Was he lying last night and he blames me for almost losing our child? she thought frantically.

He opened his mouth, then closed it, and stepped back. He was afraid. Afraid of himself. Afraid of hurting her.

Tears instantly filled Rosetta's eyes as she brought her hand back down to her side. He hates me. she thought miserably, her emotions taking over again. She stood there, her body going almost numb.

His heart broke seven times over as he watched her cry. He stepped forward and enfolded her in a cold hug.

Rosetta wrapped her arms around Sweeney's waist, holding on as if he would disappear if she didn't. "I-I'm sorry...please don't h-hate me." she whispered into his chest.

He stroked her hair softly, but didn't reply.

Rosetta leaned against Sweeney's chest, not willing to leave his embrace.
