Denis hopped in after her and waited to go.

She pulled down the cobbles, slowing as the gate opened. Then she pulled through, turned right, and sped down the road, the gate closing. "We got a racer who's been starved and has gotten tangled up in barbed wire." She said, turned left onto another road, speeding down it.

Denis's jaw tightned and he shook his head. "I hate people."

"Thanks. Us people really take that as a compliment." She said. She pulled up a cracked street, and reversed into a dirt driveway, police cars up front. "We don't need warrants to seize animals. Lucky enough to get some special license." She said, the engine going quite. "There'll be a couple of thermoses of hot water in the side room, make a bowl of mash." She said, getting out. She unlocked the door, and pulled out a toolbox. She grabbed the halter and lead, and easily jumped the fence into the pasture next to the falling-down house. There was a big black stallion on his side, barbed wire choking his legs. Cassie murmered softly to him, and pulled out wire clippers from the box. She clipped all the wire, and swiftly tore away the fence from near the racer. Her hands were punctured and bleeding from the wire, biut she was oblivious. She sat next to the exhausted stallion, carefully pulling wire from his legs, using nothing but her hands.

Denis made the mash and walked quietly up to the horse and girl. He relaxed his posture, shouldrs slumped, head down. He neeled next to the horse and softly spoke to him. He offered his hand to the horses nose and praised him. He kept the horse calm as the barbed wire was removed.

"Feed him the mash. But slowly, one handful, then a break. He needs the food, but if he eats to fats, he could get really sick." The stallions breath evened as he calmed down, knowing they were helping him. Cassie pulled the last strand free, and pulled antiseptic spray from the toolbox. He flinched when she sprayed the lacerations, and then when she wound bandages around his legs and chest. "Ill finish at the ranch." She said, wiping her bloody hands on. Her jeans. Blood just welled up in the cuts on her hands again, replacing the other blood.

Denis nodded and smiled a bit, he knew what to do, but he would have said the same thing. He slowly offered the stallion a handful of food, and did as she had told him to do. He looked up at Cassie, "you need to do something about your hands."

She shrugged, standing up. "Keep doing what you're doing." She said, picking up her toolbox and walking to the fence on the other side of the paddock, next to the driveway. She kicked down four posts, and clipped the wire in the middle, pulling it to the sides and out of the way. She paused to speak to an officer. He nodded and beckoned to some other officers, and they started pulling down the barbed wire from the posts. Cassie backed the trailer into the paddock, stopping it a few meters away fron Denis and the stallion. She climbed out, and set to work on opening the trailer, and setting it up. There was no more blood on her hands. She filled a second bucket of water, placing it on the floor. She put the hay in a low-mounted manger, and came out again.

Denis kept murmuring to the stallion and feeding him small handfuls of food, he looked over when the trailer backed into the pasture.

She handed him the halter."Since you're down ther..."

Denis smiled and slid the halter on the horses face, he gave it a gentle tug and stood back.

"Come on, boy." Cassie coaxed. He tried a couple of times before managing to stand. He stood huge, one of the larger racehorses. She led him into the trailer, and he drank. She tied the lead to a ring in the wall, and then shut the trailer. She waved to an officer, then climbed into the drivers seat.

Denis jumped in after her.

Once she pulled into the road, she hit the gas. The roads were pretty empty, and they got back to the ranch in no time. She got out, turning the engine off, and let down the ramp. She led the stallion out, and into the clinic. She put him in the first stall, and filled his bucket with water. Then she made a mash, adding medicines and power granules. She poured that into his feed bucket, and put some hay in his manger. Then, as he was slowly slurping at his mash, she kneeled down. She pulled the bandages of his chest, and put her hands over the wounds. They began to close, until she left then as scars, the hair waiting to grow over. She did the same to the legs, and the wouinds on his flank. He sighed, and she stood, smiling.

Denis slowly got out of the truck. He walked over to Daioh's stall, "Heyy boy." Daioh nickered to him.

Cassie walked slowly from the clinic to the barn, Black Jack limping after her. She put him in a stall a couple away from the others so he could rest.

"How you like it here Daioh?" Daioh nodded his head up and down and whinnyed.

She laughed, coming out of Black Jacks stall.

Daioh turned his head to look at her and whinnyed again. Denis laughed and kissed his horse on his muzzle, then Daioh stuck his tounge out and nickered.

She smiled, locking Black Jacks stall. She gently stroked his face, and he closed his eyes.

"Hey, Daioh," Denis whispered to Daioh. Daioh looked at Denis, "I want you to be nice to that stallion okay? Make him feel welcome." Daioh nodded at Denis.

"Hello, I am Daioh." Daioh nickered to Black Jack.

The stallion opened his eyes and flicked his ears. He snorted, watching Cassie disapear into the tack room, and then replied. "Apparantlyn I'm Black Jack."

Daioh laughed."What happened to you?" his face wnt serious.

His face grew dark. "A lot." Was all he said.

"I am sorry, you are in good hands now though, these humans will take very good care of you, I am sure you can already tell though." Daioh smiled reasuringly and Denis walked over to Black Jack, "Hello boy," Denis held his hand out for the horse to sniff.
