Chelsea listened to the vet, on the verge of tears. She inhaled slowly, her intake of breath shaky. I am not 'most' owners. I don't care if he can be ridden or not. She said. She petted his nose, and sighed. Was it fair to keep him alive? He'd be in a lot of pain until his leg healed, and if it did, there was still the possibility of him not being able to show again, wwhich was something she could tell he loved.

Snowfire snorted softly and tiredly when Chelsea petted his nose. He lifted his head just enough to press his head against her arm before letting it drop again. The vet looked at the girl and shook his head. "If that is what you've decided then I'll go get some strong painkillers. He's going to need them to get him back to your barn. I'll also have to get a sling. He needs to rest the leg for a while before it can start to heal." he told her. "Do you have a large stall we could put him in?" he asked.

Chelsea smiled softly when the stallion pressed his head against her arm. She looked back up at the vet, and nodded. I have a couple in the mare barn. She said, pointing to the one closest to them. She thought about all the time and effort it would take to get Snowfire back to health. Would she be able to do it? She wasn't sure, be she sure as hell was going to try.

The vet nodded and headed towards his truck to get the painkillers. He returned shortly with two syringes. "I'll need you to keep a good hold on his lead while I give him these." he told the girl.

Chelsea petted Snowfire, and hummed to him as the vet went off to get his supplies. When he returned, she nodded and complied to what he'd just said. Sh took hold of both side of the stallion's halter, and braced herself a bit incase he decided to do what he did last time.

The stallion snorted warily when Chelsea got a good grip on his halter but he didn't move much when the vet administered the two shots. Compared to having his shoulder popped back into place the needles felt like a small bug bite. It only took a couple of minutes before Snowfire started to relax. His head and ears drooped low, his shoulders sagged, and his eyelids drooped nearly shut. "Alright. Let's see if we can get him to the barn. I've already set a sling in there." he told her, motioning for her to lead the white horse.

Chelsea whispered to him reassuringly as the vet gave him the shots. Once the man was finished, Chelsea grinned and told the stallion what a good boy he was. A couple of minutes passed before Snowfire visibly relaxed, and she smiled. She let go of one side of the halter, and tugged on it with her other hand gently, clicking her tongue. C'mon. We're going to go to the barn. She cooed. She patted him with her free hand as she asked him to move again.

Snowfire snorted softly at Chelsea's words and tried to take a step forward but he couldn't put in weight on his bad leg. Although it was numb and he couldn't feel any pain, he still couldn't use it. His ears flicked back when the girl asked him to move again and he nickered softly. He didn't want to let her down. He tried again and managed a small step with his good leg. He continued the slow and strenuous task of walking as he followed her.

Chelsea frowned as she realized that Snowfire could barely move. She thought for a moment, trying to figure out a way in which he could move easier. She whistled, and Belles trotted up beside them. Chelsea sent her a telepathic message, and the black mare gave a nod. She stepped up close to the white stallion, and pressed lightly up against him. Chelsea was hoping that it would him him be a bit more balanced so he could take larger steps. She doubted it would work, but she was hoping.

Snowfire gave a snort of thanks and leaned slightly on Belles. It helped him to stay balanced and take a little bigger steps, but the process of getting to the barn was still slow and by the time they reached it the stallion was exhausted.

Chelsea took small steps, not wanting to get ahead of the stallion. Her idea seemed to have worked, but the poor boy was exhausted by the time the reached the barn. She stepped through the open door, urging the horse to go further. C'mon Snowfire. It's only a few more steps. She said softly. She was glad the large stall was just inside the barn. She could see the sling inside, and sighed. Snowfire was going to heal.

Snowfire followed along as best as he could into the stall. The vet moved to strap him securely into the sling. He went through and checked all of the straps before using a system of ratchets to lift Snowfire up from the ground enough that his hooves were a little bit above the ground. The stallion let out an alarmed snort at the feeling of the ground disappearing from under him. He thrashed weakly for a moment before hanging limp as the rest of his energy left him.

Chelsea watched anxiously as the man strapped the stallion into the sling and raised him. She nearly freaked when Snowfire began to struggle. Would his movement ruin the sling that would help save his life. She exhaled heavily as he gave up, realizing that she'd been holding her breath. She looked at him, tears nearly coming to her eyes as she saw how weak the white stallion was. Was this the right choice? Had she made the wrong one? She stood there, unsure of what to do.

The vet watched the stallion struggle and finally give up before turning to the girl. "The sling is made for horses much larger and heavier than him so don't worry about it breaking or anything. I'd advise keeping him in the sling for at least a week to regain a little strength and then if there is a pond or creek that's deep enough that his hooves can't touch the bottom water therapy would be a good start to get his muscles back in shape. I'll give you a couple muscle relaxers so that they will also be able to mend a little while he is in the sling. Any questions?" he asked.

Chelsea turned to the vet, and nodded s he explained everything. She did in fact have a pond that would be perfect for it, and she made a mental note to make sure there wasn't anything in it, as she hadn't looked at it since she bought the farm a few months ago. It was in a paddock that was in a state of disrepair, and she was too busy with getting everything settled to get everything fixed. Looked like she'd have to get on that within the week. When the vet asked if she had questions, she nodded. I do have one...What's the chance that this will actually work? She asked.

The vet listened to her question before glancing over at the stallion. "That all depends on Snowfire. If he wants to get better he will improve, there's no guarantee that he will be what he was before, but he should improve. Then again if he gives up there is little to nothing that can help him." he told her.

Chelsea listened to the vet's words carefully. She turned her gaze to Snowfire, and stared at him for a few moments. Did he want to get better? Or was he already on the verge of giving up. She gave a small smile, and patted the stallion lovingly on hus muzzle. All up to you... She repeated almost silently.

Snowfire's ears flicked forward momentarily at Chelsea's voice before his head drooped slightly in exhaustion. "If you don't have any more questions I should be heading back to the clinic in case there have been any other calls." he told her. "Call me if there are any complications."

Chelsea nodded, and gave a light smile. Thanks for your help. Have a good rest of your day. She said, rather half halfheartedly. She turned slightly to the white stallion, and kissed his nose. Don't give up. She pleaded as she rested her forehead on his. She stroked his cheek, watching the man out of the corner of her eye.

The vet nodded and turned to go. "Good luck with the stallion." he called back over his shoulder before heading back to his truck. He had left a bottle of muscle relaxers as well as a bottle of pain killers that could be added to feed or water at the front of the barn. He left without another word. Snowfire snorted softly at Chelsea's touch. He was extremely tired, but he lifted his head to nuzzle the girl's cheek.

Chelsea watched as the vet left, and suddenly noticed that the sky was starting to darken. How long had they been out there? She sighed, and patted Snowfire gently before leaving the stall. She placed Belles in the stall next to hime, and walked out of the barn. A few minutes later, she returned with a sleeping bag and pillow, and slipped into the stallion's stall. Looks like I'll be rooming with you for a while, buddy. She said with a halfhearted chuckle, before setting up her things. She sat on the sleeping bag, and gently stroked Snowfire's good leg while humming to him.

Snowfire listened drowsily at the things going on around him. He nickered quietly when Chelsea touched his good leg and let out a sigh as his eyes drifted shut. It was only a matter of seconds before he was completely asleep. The whole day had taken a lot out of him.

Chelsea smiled, and settled herself in her sleeping back. She stared up at the sleeping stallion, before drifting off to sleep herself, exhausted from the day's events.
