Desc:In the olden days, Harbingers were considered godlike, but those days have long since passed and the Harbinger is mostly forgotten-- and for Harbingers, being forgotten means nonexistence as we know it. Harbingers live in a world of swirling mists- each wisp reflects the emotions of the living things around them- called the dream world. Their existence in the real world depends on how firmly a wolf believes in the species; to attain understanding, Harbingers can eavesdrop into a wolf's thoughts and curiously question its beliefs, though anything too sudden will result in the Harbinger feeling discomfort and being pushed out as the wolf gets confused and blocks off its mind. Eventually Harbingers can convince some wolves that their species exists, affecting the wolf's perception so that the wolf may see a footprint that isn’t there, and then feel the brush of pelt that never touched, finally beginning see a form as real that truly exists only in the wolf's head. The "host wolf," as it is informally called, sees what it wants to see, be it a fantastically colored Keiyou or a plain old timber wolf. Being accepted as real by a wolf is the only way a Harbinger can exist in the real world, and at that, it will only appear to wolves who go through the long process of connecting with the Harbinger. Because of their separation, Harbingers can only breed with each other, and tend to converse amongst themselves unless they find a wolf that believes in them.
Lore Of The Species:The Harbingers' opinions of others usually parallel that of a Sennyo, but being trapped in a world where communication is rather restricted has placed a sense of bitterness in the species. Trapped to forever pace in a world only real to their single species, Harbingers have almost been forgotten. They have drifted to the stuff of legends and stories and are not real to most wolves until one hears them speaking in the mind... taking hold. Harbingers often ask favors from wolves who believe, so that in their own way, they can have an influence on the real world just as much as a tangible species. Wolves that discover and befriend a Harbinger will often find a lifelong friend in this seemingly imaginary companion, especially if the wolf can convince other real-world species to believe in this dream-world wolf.
