Lady Luck grazed on the tall grass and wildflowers in the meadow. She was withing sight of the beach, but not the den. She happily munched, the last rays of the sun warming her chocolate brown coat. She swished her long black tail, and snorted gently, shaking her forelock into her eyes. Then she stopped, wincing softly. She knew what it was. She went down to her knees, and then rolled to her side, trying to breath deeply. She let loose the slightest of nickers from the pain; she was never one to make much noise, no matter the immensity of pain that shot through her. She whimpered again, her side rippling.

The bay arab rolled to her belly, and heaved herself up, sighing in releif. The pain was fading rapidly, and her heart was slowing again. She looked down, seeing her newborn blinking her eyes open. She dropped her head and started cleaning the foal, smelling her, checking she was OK. The foal neighed, a little, piercing cry, and struggled, trying to copy her mother and stand. But her long legs were still wobbly, and she toppled again. The mare nudged the filly, and she struggled to her feet again. Lady Luck lifted her head. The foal had to do it herself. She took one wobbl;y step, then another, then another, reaching the mares abdomin. She lifted her head, searching for her mothers milk. She found it, and slurped, nursing.

Shaton trotted along the shore,watching silently. The sun had gone down overhead. He looked mischevious and not like himself in moonlight. He would go out tonight,without anyone. On scavenger. He thought of the time his father had done the same thing and had left him and his mum there. He snorted silently and majesticly tossed his forelock out of his eyes. His coat was brown and dirty from not swimming the whole day. He waited for Lucky to sense him or leave.

Lady Luck flicked her ears towards the beach, eyes seeking the figure creating the hoofbeats. The familiar scent of Shaton slid to her nostrils, and she snorted, letting her guard down again. She turned to her new foal, who was now gently nuzzling her, feeling her mothers warm body. Lady Luck flicked her tail, and the filly felt it with her mouth, and then sat it out again. 'Lidia." The mare whispered to no one but her foal. The filly looked up, eyes sparkling in the moonlight. Then the mare slowly turned, the filly stumbling along at her side, and walked slowly towards the dunes, and in the direction of the den, her foal prancing along on wobbly, long legs.

He trotted out from the trees searching to area.


Torro snorted and looked at the wild stallion.

Shaton glared at the other stallion,"What in sane haven horses are you doing her?

(sure. who's gonna win anyways?)

Lady Luck flicked her ears, and bolted away, taking her foal into the den. She didn't want her newborn around two fighting stallions.

He snorted. "What's the only reason I would be here?" he asked, sizing up the stallion.

"Listen foal,I don't want a fight! So back OFF!!!" His anger grew and his eyes blotted deadly red,something only a stallion could make him do. Rlling his eyes he bared hs teeth,"You...will...NEVER GET MY LUCKY!" He charged and grabbed the stallion,thowing him onto his back he ran towards the cliff, throwing him on the edgeside. It wasn't long down but it was scary. He wouldn't dare come back.

He struggled, ears pinning, teeth chomping, but was overpowered. He felt himself drop, and once he got back to his feet, he turned and fled. It was obvious he wouldn't be able to get that land...yet.

He grinned and bolted to were Lucky was waiting.

Lady Luck looked up from inside the den, ears pricked. Her body relaxed when she recognized Shaton. Her foal peeked from around her mothers body, lipping her thick, black tail.

He peeked around at the foal. Licking Lucky's mane,"I love you Lucky and the foal is beautiful,what did you name her?"

"Lidia." the name rung like a bell, sending shivers through the air.

He shivered,"That's a nice name Lucky."

She lauged softly, and shook out her mane. Her filly crupled into a pile of limbs, and was soon sleeping.

He nuzzed Lucky,laying down beside her and laying his head on her.

Lady Luck reached out and gently pulled her foal to her side. Then she curled her head around the foal, and closed her eyes.

He sighed and nuzzled her putting his head on Lidia but touching Lucky's muzzle.

She snorted, shifting away slightly.

He lifted his head with his ears' pinned to his head,trotting out of the cave he searched the dunes,ears pricked. His eyes turning red lightly. Wandering into the forest silently he made his way to the mountain and climbed the steep slope,coming to a small stream. He lowered his head and started drinking and then stood in it silently wishing Lucky would appreciate him more.

She sighed, and rolled her eyes softly. Her foal leant into her, so instead of following him, she curled around the tiny filly. She snorted, a light mist flwing into the surrounding atmosphere, and gazed upon the entrance, awaiting his return.

He didn't come,standing there ears pricked.

She silently stood, making sure to leave Lidia sleeping. Then she quietly made her way out of the cave, and stopped beside him. She flicked her tail, brushing it against his flank gently, and regarded him silently.
