She flicked her ears back, prancing. "Come with me."

"I can't I need to search the area." He looked up, calling out with a different whinny and one falcon came down.
"Hello, I am Looking Glass."
Flint nodded, "He will protect you Starlight," He nuzzled her gently.

"And who will protect you?" She asked in despair, taking a few steps backwards.

He looked up to the sky again, calling out yet a different whinny. Another falcon soared down, "Gold, will protect me."

"Come on... we must go." Looking Glass looked at starlight.

She still looked skeptical. "If you're not back by sundown, I'm coming looking." She said she touched her muzzle to his neck, and then turned, trotting towards the caves. She looked back once, eyes worried, and then galloped the rest of the way. She slowed, hesitating just outside the cave.

Looking Glass followed. "Do not worry, he shall be fine."

Flint galloped to the site. There he saw three dead bodies. A stallion, a mare, and a newborn foal. They must have been there before they came to this land, they were well hidden so when Flint marked his borders they must not have cought his eye. The stench was horrible but Flint pressed on. How did they die? He looked at them, he heard a rustling in the bushes but ignored it. There! He saw a small hole in the stallions side, the same mark in the foal and mare. A gun? Yes... a gun. HUMANS! Flint stepped back and looked around. The rustling in the bush again he looked there this time. A man stood, armed with a gun and a lasso. Flint backed up and looked around. The man spoke, a gruff and ugly sound, "Now don't try no funny buisness with me.. or I shoot you like I shooted em'" He jerked his head to the other three horses. He raised the lasso and twirled it around as Flint backed up more, head held high. The lasso came flying towards him and Flint tried to jerk away but the rope seemed to follow him. It landed around his neck and he peered down at it. He looked at the man, calmly. He had a plan. He dropped his head to the ground and kept his ears perked. He walked towards the man and reached him. Then he took off and headbuttef the man right in his stomach. He flew back and landed hard against a tree. He looked up and groaned. "I said... no funny business!" He reached the gun up and fired, the sound exploded through the forest and Flint reared up, the bullet penetrated the skin on his shoulder, a harsh cry of pain escaped his lips. He lunged at the man. He went to shoot the gun again but Flint was too quick. He grabbed the gun from the mans hand and bit down. The gun bent as he dropped it at the man's feet. The man looked up at Flint with scared eyes. Flint whinnied loudly, leave and never come back, he thought it into the man's head and the man looked at Flint. He nodded, got up with difficulty, holding his stomach, and ran, fast. Flint couldn't see the man anymore, he turned and began to walk away. He sucked in air at the pain in his shoulder. He made it out of the forest, and almost to the lake, before collapsing. The falcon that was patrolling saw Flint and screeched, but Flint didn't move. The falcon soared to the cave, "FLINT HURT COME QUICK.!!" He flew down to Flint and landed beside him.

Starlight ran hard. If she were a racehorse, she would have beat the churchill downs track record. She sobbed Flints name, stopping beside him. She looked to the falcon. "Take me t the pond." Her voice cracked, as she panted, coat lathered.

He nodded. "Wait." Flints voice came. "The words.. the wounds are hurting the wounds are great.. use your power to make them fade." He dropped his head.

Looking Glass screeched, "Follow me Starlight!" He took off into the woods.

Starlight looked confused, and then galloped after the bird, easily keeping pace, winding through the trees.

The bird landed on a tree above the pond. "Do you remember the words?"

She nodded. She picked up a rock, and scooped the water, murmuring "The wounds are painful, the wounds are great, use your power to make them fade."

He nodded, "The water is neverending now." He flew off to Flint.

She slid to a stop next to Flint, and carefully poured the water onto the bullet wound. "Come on, comeon" she mumbled over the bowl.

The bullet slowly but surely began to come out, it was painful at first but the water numbed to torn flesh around the wound. It would take a long while for him to be completly healed.

She put the bowl down, looking at him expectantly.

The bullet slowly immersed and finally fell to the ground and Flint was able to stand. He shook out his coat. "Thanks." He took a small sip of water and the bullet hole began to close,

She rested her forehead against his side, shutting her eyes. "Ill never do what you say again."She said softly.

He laughed, "Well if you would have cone then we would have both been shot and then who would save us then?"

He couldn't shoot us both at once."

"Still, something worse could have happened."

She snorted, smiling slightly. "Just shut up." She pressed her forehead against his shoulder again.

He laughed, resting his head on her back.

She sighed.

The three birds screeched as they flew away, leaving Flint and Starlight alone...

She smiled, closing her eyes.
